Song Kang Ho's "Broker" Scores an Additional International Achievement
International recognition continues to be given to "Broker", which features Song Kang Ho and IU. The movie won the top prize at Germany's 39th Munich Film Festival.
'Broker' Wins Best International Film of the Year at ARRI Award
Anoutlet reported that the Munich Film Festival website announced the winners of the highly coveted ARRI Award. This award is the highest honor at the festival.
Of the 10 films that were invited, "Broker", won the CinemaStars competition. It was also selected as the best international movie of the year.
The CinemaStars section also includes South Korean movies, as well as nominees like the Italian-language drama film directed and written respectively by Felix van Groeningen & Charlotte Vandermeersch and the Iranian drama film "Leila's Brothers", directed and written jointly by Saeed Roustayi.
The movie directed and written by Koreeda Hirokazu, a Japanese filmmaker, impressed the Munich Film Festival jury. Gibel Kequili, a German actress who won an award, described "Broker” as "a film filled with nostalgia, determination and detours." She added that these are the paths we must take in life to find ourselves and one another.
The festival also revealed the reason they gave the South Korean film the top category. They said that the line "Thank you for your being born" is what attracts viewers and that every character is ultimately multi-layered, lovable, that's cinematic art.
